Good algae control results in good water quality and a healthy aquarium environment. There are many types of algae, some of which are detrimental to water quality in fish tanks.
Algae can smother plants and corals, inhibiting photosynthesis and resulting in their death.
Algae is generally unsightly when growing on the glass and contents of an aquarium.

Many organisms feed on algae and fast growing plants which can be exploited as a means of algae control. Other than biological control of algae, there are other factors that influence it's growth, such as the phosphate levels, the wave length of light and duration of light.
